Cannon Beach, home to Haystack Rock, a 235-foot monolithic giant rising from the Pacific Ocean off the Oregon coast, is a location I relish visiting time and time again.
I arrived in the late afternoon on this particular day and waited for the sunset and evening tide. With a vision for the photo in mind, I was hoping nature would cooperate. As the waves came in and the hours passed, I waited for a wave ridge leading from the sea to the rock. Exposure after exposure showed elements of what I was looking for, but it didn’t all come together until the image you see here; I was elated. Though I took subsequent exposures, none captured the sky and waves as does this image.
