I was able to spend some time last week at Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club, and wow- was it ever a treat! Everything about the resort is top notch. What you see here is the main corridor of the resort’s Convention Center. I was fascinated with this hallway and the symmetry on display. Many thanks go to the staff, who were very kind and accommodating as I took my time shooting.
There are a few tools I’m a fan of: the crop tool in Photoshop CS6, BlackRapid straps, Induro tripods (I love my AT-213), and the Topaz Suite.
Recently, I was talking with good folks at Topaz about getting on Google+ when during one of our conversations they asked: “Hey, how would you like to do have a copy of Denoise to giveaway to the community?” I thought deeply about this for about a millisecond and said, “Yes!”
I use Denoise on almost all my images, and highly recommend it (otherwise I wouldn’t even talk about it). It’s also about $80, so scoring one free for someone seemed pretty cool. So here’s how this is going to work, all you need to do is:
1) Download Denoise (you get to use it for 30 days free – no watermarks on your images).
2) Create an image using Denoise that is 1200px on the long side.
3) Let me know you are going to participate by commenting on this post so I can add you to the contest album.
4) Upload your image to the contest album (link)
That’s it. You don’t have to share this post or circle anyone (unless you want to share the love). Photos must be submitted by Friday 5/4 at 11:59 EDT. The winner will be announced on 5/7 during the +PlusPhotoShow. Hangout at 9pm EDT. The winner will also be announced on the blog the same night.
Some additional details:
-Regarding copyright: the images are yours, the remain yours, and I assert no right to them beyond displaying them in the album and during the +PlusPhotoShow.
-This contest is open to anyone over the age of 18 (that is, it’s not restricted to the United States) but it is void where prohibited by law or regulation.
-I have the right to reject entries if images are deemed to be obscene, provocative, or inappropriate.
-Legally binding releases for individuals and any elements subject to the rights of third parties the responsibility of the entrant.
Downtown Winter Garden, FL as a rainstorm was approaching. I’ll be heading down to Winter Garden this afternoon for the Spring Fever in the Garden. It’s a fun even featuring plant, nature, and wildlife vendors along with artists.
It’s a laid-back weekend, but there’s some really cool stuff coming on Monday (I won’t spoil it) but you’ll want to check back Monay
Quite a bit of talk was going on about the 5D Mark III incorrectly metering under certain conditions. The issue crops up when metering in low light conditions with the LCD illuminated. Canon just released a statement confirming the problem and it will be interesting to see how Canon plans on addressing this issue.
In the meantime, head over to Canon to get the whole story.
One of my favorite images from Epcot. This was taken around dusk as a storm was rolling in. It was one of those times I seriously thought it may be a bad idea to be running around with large metal lightning rod (i.e. my tripod). Still, the sky was beautiful and the shot was worth it.
I had a chance to eat here during my honeymoon (some moons ago now), and the food is quite good. It’s very well worth it.
Tulips do not conform to the expected shape of a flower. They are beautiful nonetheless, especially when adorned with water droplets.
This the interior of the Church built at the site of the Garden of Gesthemane near the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem.
The church sits on the foundations of a 12th century crusader chapel abandoned in 1345 and a 4th ceturny Byzantine basilica that was destroyed by an earthquake in the 8th century.
Another name for this church is: The Church of all Nations as many countries donated funds for its construction between 1919 and 1924.
Most importantly, this is the site of Jesus anguish prior to his crucifixion recorded in Luke 22:39-46.
As I looked on the Space Shuttle Endeavour, I knew this was a shot I had to get- especially after seeing the numbered tiles. The, care, detail, and engineering prowess required to push us as a species into space is all summed up in the precise craftsmanship involved in making each tile and the care taken in placing it and monitoring its condition after every flight.
Endeavour will never again take us into space, but she remains a technical marvel – a reminder of what can be done.
There was a time when Winter Garden’s railroad was the lifeblood of the town – back when the citrus industry was king. In the 20’s pullman cars ran through downtown bringing prospectors from far and wide to see the growing little city in Florida. During World War II, the citrus industry boomed as the federal government, eager to provide soldiers with vitamins necessary to fight disease, purchased large quantities of canned orange juice to send to troops around the world.
The railroad is still in use today, but citrus is no longer Winter Garden’s primary industry and the railroad isn’t what it was. What it means to the town has changed. But it’s still there, a reminder of days gone by.
Interior shot of NASA’s Vehicle Assembly Building at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. This is a massive building whose scale is hard to convey. You really have to see it to understand it.
