Shards of stone rising from the sea stand sentinel against a soft night sky during a cloud-covered sunset. The image contrasts the metaphysical with the temporal and invites the viewer to consider the eternal.
The image was photographed at Oregon’s Cannon beach in the spring of 2017 immediately prior to a sunset rainstorm. There was a very small window of opportunity to capture this image. Nonetheless, I knew I wanted a long exposure to soften the sky and water and fired several minute to minute-and-half exposures until the rain forced my retreat.
